A message from the author:
Hello Pa readers and authors.
My name is Dr. Marlene Koestenblatt Kushner. New to facebook, I am excited about being able to outreach to a large and diversified audience. I am in the process of having a webpage designed, which will offer expanded information about me and my recently published book, “Sense of Direction.” The book is based upon my personal and professional experiences over decades, providing neuropsychological services to students who are neurodiverse-who learn differently. Although I have served students in all grades, I specialized in working at the college college and graduate level.
This book is unique in several ways. First, I utilized my neuropsychological training and research to explore the thoughts, emotions and experiences of a person who has ” invisible disabilities” such as I do. Second, in addition to my memoir, is material about practices and procedures which are ordinarily inaccessable to the student or parent(s) of the individual receiving services. Third is a section offering resources in two broadly based categories- technological aides as well as associations providing support and information to special populations. One example is The Learning Disability Association of America. Although psychologists often disagree about what constitutes good practice, there are some areas of consensus. Early diagnosis and intervention can be the difference between a successful outcome and one that is significantly less so. Having shared the frustration and pain of students who were not provided the neccessary experience and training to handle rigorous university assignments overcame my reluctance to share myself with the public.
Finally, there is a section following research into attentional disorders and learning disabilities, beginning in the eighteenth century.
Conversations I have had with readers of “Sense of Direction” have said that they found the book is informative and inspiring. I encourage you to find out for yourself if it is pertinent and interesting-a good read.Thank you for your time.
